Chevy Chase Golf Course

Welcome to Chevy Chase Golf Course

one of the holes at washington states oldest public golf course

Located on the Olympic Peninsula, Jefferson County Washington.

A nine-hole golf course was carved out of a farm pasture owned by Mary Chase in 1925

Mary Chase decided to retire and sold the property to Philip Bailey after world war II.

Chevy Chase Golf Club had been owned by the Bailey family of Seattle since the late 1940s. But in April 2004, the course was sold to Michael Asmundson. Asmundson is the principal owner. His minority partner is Nicolas Hurtado from the Club de Golf La Esperanza in Chile.

Current status of Chevy Chase:

Many changes have taken place since Asmundson purchased the course. Besides changing the name to Discovery Bay Golf course he made improvements in drainage plus currently there are new roughed in greens and tee boxes. It had appeared these may not be used.

In the first weeks of 2007 Asmundson announced he was going to close the course to create farming land, mini parks with walking trails. Realistically running a golf course in the PNW presents a very difficult business model, especially when it services a minority. It was easy to see why this announcement was made.

Good news came to the golf community in March of 2007. Besides a poorly done article in the local paper, a conversation with Randy White offered some clarity to the courses future. Mike Asmundson and his partner Nicolas Hurtado are still dedicated to the building project and now plan to keep the golf course open.

Operations of the course would be minimal, only what is needed to keep it in decent playing conditions. The breaking of ground for the cluster house development is slated to be around the first of May 2007. Nothing has changed as of May 2008.
